The education system in Türkiye shifted from deductive to inductive in 2005. Reading instruction is audio-based. Therefore, it takes time for students to transition to normal oral reading. For some students, this process continues until fourth grade.

Oral reading speed is crucial at the primary school level for developing fluent reading skills. During oral reading, text is perceived through the eye, vocalized through the tongue, heard through the ear, and then transmitted to the brain via signals received from these senses. In reading, the time between the eye seeing a word and its pronunciation is about a quarter of a second. According to Alain Lieury's experimental studies, a maximum of four words can be read aloud per second, or 4 x 60 = 240 words per minute.
Silent reading speed: According to Lieury, the eyes of a highly developed reader can recognize a word projected onto a screen within 10 milliseconds. Therefore, silent reading allows a maximum of 10 words to be read per second, and this number can reach up to 600 words per minute.
